Holding Together

From the rain of yesterday,
the leaves are staying in place
where they have fallen others
still clinging as a slight wind
prophesizes their eventual fall.
Things are in place this morning
and I wonder if I am, if
I have let go, held to
the seasonality of reality,
the eternal promise of what
has been will be again differently.
Indeed, we don't want to lose
what is worth keeping but
we can't keep what doesn't
change.
             The rain of last night,
              the mist of this morning
are holding things as they are
for just a little longer.
